This fine Victorian Gothic building which stands set back from the road was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott on a new site for the school whose origins can be traced back to 1350. 

Doncaster Grammar School. admitted its first pupils in the new building in 1869. Of particular interest in the interior is the impressive Library with its hammerbeam roof. This was originally the schoolroom. The later extensions designed by Julian Leathart were started in 1938 to accommodate the increase in pupils. Formal opening was in 1940.  These extensions were listed at the request of Doncaster Civic Trust. Although no longer a Grammar School it still functions as a school called Hall Cross Academy.
